Follow these step-by-step instructions to guide you in earning the PMP® Certification

1 – Ensure You Are Qualified

Visit the Prerequisites and Exam Details page to determine whether you meet all education and experience requirements for the PMP® credential. You will be required to document your qualifications in detail on the PMP® application. If you have specific questions about your eligibility, contact PMI directly.

2 – Download and Read the PMP® Handbook

The PMP® Handbook will provide answers to all of your PMP® questions about eligibility, application process, fees, the exam, and renewal.

3 – Join PMI

While membership is not required, the US$139 cost to join is well worth the investment. As a member, you’ll save US$150 on PMP® exam registration fees and will have free access to electronic versions of the PMI Standards and A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).

4 – Prepare for the PMP® Exam

5 – Complete your application

Complete your online PMP® application at http://www.pmi.org/Certification/apply-now.aspx. You will have 90 days to complete the application once started. The CertWise® Learning System for PMP® Exam Preparation includes an Application Worksheet to help you organize and prepare your information before you begin the application process.

6 – Submit your application and payment

PMI will review your online application in 5 business days. You may be selected for an audit at this time. If you are selected, you will have 90 days to submit all required documents for the audit. The cost of PMP® application is US$405 for members and US$555 for non-members

7 – Schedule and Take Your PMP® Exam

Locate your nearest Prometric Testing Center and schedule your exam. You will have 1 year to take the multiple-choice PMP® Exam from the date of your application approval. You can take the exam up to 3 times during this one year time period.

8 – Maintain Your PMP®

You are required to renew your PMP® credential every 3 years. To do so, you must track and earn 60 PDUs and submit your renewal application and fee.
